Existing structures, when damaged, require diagnostic investigations in order to ascertain their actual state and to assess their safety. This necessity is particularly evident for historic buildings, but also for recent buildings when damaged by long term lack of maintenance and events like earthquakes, fires and floods.

On site investigations are generally a necessity to this purpose and require appropriate non-destructive testing techniques. Guidelines are needed for their application. Several Technical Committees dealing with site assessment of structures were set up by RILEM in the last years. The results of their activity will be presented at the Conference together with the contribution of external international experts.

The SACoMaTiS 2008 conference is organized in collaboration with RILEM. In the same period, the annual Rilem week will take place. See the “RILEM Week” frame.
